Basil

Basil is native to the tropical zones of India. The bright green, soft leaves have a wonderful aroma that add a light peppery, minty flavor. Pick the leaves from the stem and add to a multitude of dishes near the end of cooking. If basil is cooked for too long, the heat will deplete the flavor.
